Born in London, England in 1972, with one younger sister. Paul gad to grow up quickly, for his mother died in labor with Henrietta, and his father abandoned them to his maternal aunt when Paul was 10. He never was the strongest academic student, but that is mostly attributed to having to work to help support the family. As a result, he knew that if he wanted to continue his education, he needed to join the Royal Navy to help him pay for it.

He ended up enjoying his career in the military, making various lifelong friends as he made his way up the ranks. He was stationed amongst Americans for quite awhile, giving him a positive view on them. He ended up meeting the woman who would become his wife while stationed in Iraq, a woman by the name of Mary Norton. Sadly, their marriage would not last long, as she was a casualty of a roadside bomb mere months after the end of his military career, months before she herself was set to be discharged.

Paul went into military retirement at the age of 34 at the rank of a Royal Navy Commander. Finding that England just held no more interest for him with his wife gone, he decided to move to America, settling in Boston because of the similar weather to London. It was a culture shock, that much was certain, but he'd yet to regret it. He joined the police force, and found his years in the military lent themselves very well to a career in policework, and he quickly made his way up the ranks to Detective in Homicide.
